In short

Product Pieces ran a prototyping discovery for a US startup reinventing how customers engage with their change at the till. We blended loyalty cards, coin-conversion, cash-back and marketing concepts into a shaped product with an early view of cost. Delivered by our founder, a Toptal Top 3% product manager.

The brief.

A US startup had a cluster of ideas circling one moment: the change you get at the till. Loyalty cards, the Coinstar coin-to-cash model, turning change into cash or credit, plus a few marketing mechanics. The ask was to pull it into a coherent product through prototyping, and to understand what it might cost to build.

The challenge.

A handful of adjacent ideas isn't a product. The job was to find the version that hangs together: one clear customer moment and value, not five competing ones. Then make it tangible enough to react to, and attach an early cost so the founders knew what they were weighing.

What we delivered.

A prototyping exercise that shaped the concept into something concrete — the core customer flow and how the loyalty, conversion and cash mechanics fit around it — plus an early cost picture to frame the build decision.

The result.

The startup came away with a shaped, prototyped concept and an early sense of cost. A coherent product to take forward instead of a list of overlapping ideas.
